বেশ কয়েক বছর আগে স্বনামধন্য লোকসংগীতশিল্পী ও গবেষক তপন রায়-এর ভাবনায় জন্ম হয় মাদলের। পশ্চিমবাংলাসহ ভারতের বিভিন্ন প্রদেশে বাঙালি শ্রোতাদের কাছে মাদলের লোকগান যথেষ্ট সমাদৃত। দীর্ঘদিন লোকসংগীত নিয়ে গবেষণার কাজ চালাতে চালাতে ডঃ তপন রায় শুধুমাত্র মেয়েদের নিয়ে একটি লোকগানের দল গড়ার প্রয়োজন অনুভব করেন এবং তা বাস্তবে রূপ নেওয়া মাত্রই বাংলা লোকসংগীতপ্রিয় শ্রোতাদের মন জয় করে ।
